Personal Background

I ended up at East Carolina University as a result of personal interests and a bit of brainwashing from my mother. I was born and raised in Virginia Beach, Virginia and spent my entire life growing up there. I chose to challenge myself academically at a young age by enrolling in a "center for the gifted and talented" offered at an elementary school located across the city. I continued to challenge myself by attending a Magnet Middle School program with advanced math and science classes as well as increased language requirements such as Latin. While at Ocean Lakes High School, I was enrolled in the Math & Science Adacemy which challenged my abilities with courses such as AP Calculus, AP Statistics, Magnet Physics, and Magnet Astronomy. I feel that it is through this challenging academic background that I have grown to become the person I am today. As a result of my involvement in various school activies as well as my passion for sports, my time management skills were quite refined before reaching college.

ECU is only located about two and a half hours from my home and provides a good location to get distance from home but to still be close to my family. The fact that ECU has Division 1 sports such as football and basketball definitely had a significant impact on my decision to attend this university as I am a Pirate who bleeds Purple and Gold! I am an all around sports fan, but ECU football is my true passion and with every win and loss my passion continues to grow. I actually grew up on minor league hockey and am actually named after a former ECHL hockey player whose career never amounted to anything. I had season tickets from the time I was born until the time I went to college, and have attended well over 600 hockey games in person. As far as my personal interests are concerned I am a huge sports fan still and spend much of my free time either watching games in person or on television.
