Career Aspirations

While there are many opportunities availabe in the business-sector, it is my passion for Sports which drives my career goals. My main goal is to secure a job in which I am not trapped behind a desk working from 8am-5pm Monday to Friday. I understand the requirments of the ever-changing business of sports and like to be constanlty engaged. I am not opposed to moving around the country in order to pursue my career goals and would also actively pursue an internship if given the chance. While there is a difference in watching sports as a fan and working in sports as an employee, the fact that there is involvement with team operations and the actual players is what captures my attention. Below, I have outlined a few different paths which I could see myself following.

My ideal job would be one with the East Carolina Atheltic Department. This would begin while in graduate school as a result of either securing a Graduate Assistantship position or an internship. I would likely need to begin in either tickets or sales and work my way up. Over time I would expect to see room for advancement as well as a chance to travel and move around within the departmental hierarchy.

A third path which I am interested in pursuing is that of a sports agent. The responsibility and power of managing player contracts and representing others financial interests is definitely something which appeals to me. This would also provide me a means to network and grow my background with interactions between players and teams.

I would also love to have a career within the professional sports industry, preferably with a team either in the NHL, NFL, or NBA. In order to get a start, I would need to work my way up through the organization, potentially via work in the minor leagues. Local minor league teams such as those based in Kinston, Durham, or Norfolk would provide these kinds of opportunities.
